Am going to be swapping my 1982 6.2 for an injected 8.1 but have run into all kinds of complications. Intended to continue to run the 6.2 until the 8.1 and trans were rebuilt and ready to drop in but the truck has these huge aftermarket tanks that are in bad shape, keep sucking up water and crap then the truck dies.

Rather than screwing around with trying to clean these monsters out I'd like to just swap in the 87+ EFI tanks now and run them without the internal pumps until I get the gasser in the truck. Can you just install the sending unit with a piece of fuel line instead of the pump?

That's what I have been running on my 1980 for the last year or two until I actually get the L29/4L80 into mine. I have the EFI blazer tank and EFI sending unit in mine with the bottom of a non-efi sending unit cut off to put a sock pickup at the correct level to pull from the bottom. I used a short section of hose to connect the two steel sections and have had zero issues. When I do the swap I'll just pull that lower section with the sock and put the original EP381 in it's place and be done.

Great! Actually bought a beater 2003 Suburban to use as a tow rig until I get the dually on the road. It'll be the engine donor.
