Knock on a Red Wood tree ! My 96 2 door Tahoe has 230k on it and it only has first and reverse but that’s all I need to plow my driveway lol been that way for 10 years, I blame it on the X GF though the little $lut ran it nearly out of tranny juice and cooked it !

Is the 1-2 upshift the only gear change that is early?

How early is it relative to what your friend expects the shift to occur at?

Is it happening at part throttle or WOT (or both)?

What is his final drive ratio and converter stall?

Is the 1-2 upshift the only gear change that is early? YES

How early is it relative to what your friend expects the shift to occur at? at least 1000-2000 early

Is it happening at part throttle or WOT (or both)? both

What is his final drive ratio and converter stall? 3000 stall 4:11

Nick Craig my friend said that is the way they build them, shift at lower rpm instead of (his red line is 7500) high to save the trans? The car revs to 7500 easily as his valve train is shaft, roller, and springs are I believe around 200 closed and 425 at max lift which I believe is around .650. 12.5 CR.

How do they "build them" to shift early? Isn't the shift scheduling entirely in the computer controlling it on a 4L60 and 4L80? Unless it has a full manual valve body of course....

If it has a full manual valve body, the early shifting would be a driver issue but, assuming a forward auto pattern shift strategy, I'm thinking it's stack-shifting due to either leaks in the apply circuit for 2nd or a valve body problem, unless the vehicle's PCM/controller was specifically tuned to shift early which I'd have no idea why since it's way too soon for the cam's power band.

@Craig Nedrow - I'd recommend your friend call Performabuilt to see what they have to say...All shift points are electronically controlled so perhaps the PCM needs to be tuned for the converter stall, gear ratio and cam in the engine (assuming that hasn't been done already).
