Hey there! So I’ve bought my first old truck 86 K10. The exterior is in great shape, interior needs some work. My first big project is the dash pad replacement. I’m curious to know is it worth going ahead and replacing the gauge cluster knowing it needs to be replaced as well? Currently only the speedometer and fuel gauge work, the guy I bought it from did 3 aftermarket gauges (Tachometer, oil pressure, water temp) placed right above the 4x4 shifter near the floor. I’d really like to replace the cluster to restore it more to the the original model.

wanting to know if I’m adding to my headache replacing the dash pad then having to come back and remove it again to do the cluster. Thanks for any advise!

I know this from experience, do it ALL at once so you don't have to do it multiple times. I made that mistake on our classic car. I pulled out the whole interior and restored everything except the dash, because it was the nicest part of the interior, until I restored everything else, then it became the part that looked like it needed restoration. Then I had to restore the dash while it was in the nicely restored interior, without messing up the work I had already completed.

I'd figure out why the gauges aren't working before I bought a whole new cluster. could be sensor issues or just the gauges in the cluster need to be replaced.
