275/60r15 vs 255/70r15 on stock rally wheel

Some of you may have saw my 79 I just bought. It needs tires to be useful for now. I’m a little torn between the 275/60 and the 255/70 and how it will look and feel on the truck or if I should be looking at doing the wider out back/skinny up front thing. Anyone have pics to share? I’ve been scouring the net for examples, but stock height trucks on stock wheels are not that popular on these forums, especially with someone actually saying what size they’re running.

These tires likely won’t be staying on the truck permanent but at some point will get swapped over to my 82 when I pull it out of the shed and get it going. The plan is to leave the 82 stock height and lower the 79.

275-60 was my go to size for pretty much every 60s-80s full size car or half ton I had back in the day.

I found some pics on another forum as well. Kinda leaning towards the 275/60s. Definitely going same size all around so I can do normal tire rotations.

Now here’s a really important question. White letters in or out?

This is not a question.
White letter always go out. Unless it's a new vehicle they should be shamed with bland tires.

I vote 275/60R15 on all four corners all day long. Fatter looks better, and the 8" wheel is perfect for this size. White letter out only if BF Goodrich. Classic. My 2 cents worth.

Just ordered the 275/60r15 Cooper Cobras. Options were pretty limited. It was either the Coopers or the BF Goodrich. The Coopers were quite a bit less $$ and I can get them installed next week. The BFs were going to take at least another week to bring in.

So this should give me just enough time to get my wheels sanded and repainted and hopefully polish up the trim rings and center caps.

I need to either paint the bolt heads for the center caps or track down some stainless bolts in the right size. Mine are rusted and look terrible.

Good choice on the tire size. I've gone to great lengths to get an original set of unbent 15 x 8 rally's on mine. I like the rally's. A lot. Mine's a stock height longbed and I'm planning to upgrade to 265 70s when my 235 75s wear down. I think the short beds look great with the 275 60s but it's too much fender gap for longbed IMO. This pic has the 295 65s on the back.

If it's a k10, best all round tire size for a stock truck are 31x10.50 R15s.
Have suited me well, big enough for offroading, but small enough to not be a pain on road. Good size for a daily driver K10s in my opinion. They're relatively cheap and easy to find, and look good. Had 30x9.50s originally, looked a tad too small.
Have 33x12.50s on my blazer. Look awesome, but they rub unless you cut or strip some weight.
If its C10, I dont have a clue. Never had a 2wd.

I have 265/75 R16s on my Yukon and suburban, they're a good size tire.
Almost exactly the same size and dimensions as the 31x10.50 15s.

Here's mine before (kind of bald 30s)...

Hell ive even got 31x10.5x15s on (the back of) my 2wd s10! Mud terrains even!! :happy175:
