I'm familiar with wiring up the manual lock-up switch, Matt.
I just want to know if unplugging the factory solenoid detent wire (and leaving it unplugged) is going to cause issues with the truck's computer?
Thanks Nick.
So if I leave the wire to the detent solenoid unplugged (I'll just cap it and tie it off out of the way), that won't effect anything on the PCM side, will it? It won't throw a code or act up if it can't see what gear the 200 is in?
While the OG 305 TBI/TH400/3.08 10 bolt in my 87 R10 does okay buzzing down the highway between 71-74mph at 2800rpm, I'm just not enjoying that kind of a buzz for hours on end when I drive long distances. So I'd like to put in an OD trans. I have a decent, used 200-4R I'd like to put behind the...
There's some serious merit to the cracked head (or blown head gasket) idea. The plugs look a bit yellow/orangey. And I do lose a little bit of coolant over the course of a couple months. It's just that the liquid being spat out during this exercise was gas and not coolant.
This 305 would...
I pulled the valve cover and everything looked hunky-dory underneath. I checked the rockers and they all seemed fine. Nothing looked to be out of adjustment. I watched as my wife turned it over and everything seemed to be functioning just fine.
For this test, I unplugged the injector pods...
Maybe?
But since this isn't port/individual injectors, I'd think I'd be getting fuel out of more than just one cylinder on that bank if that was the issue.
(I gasket-rebuilt the TBI about 4 months ago. Seemed to be doing its thing just fine afterwards.)
It runs really smooth. It sure sounds like it's firing on all cylinders.
But she GUZZLES gas like nobody's business - way more than a little (mostly stock) 305TBI should. So I need to figure out why. So I'll act on your suggestion and see if I see something there.
Hey y'all,
I was doing a compression check on my 87 305 TBI engine this evening and was getting fuel spitting out of the #8 spark plug hole while spinning the engine over to check pressures on the other cylinders.
Any idea why that'd be happening?? All the other cylinders were bone dry while I...
Wow, lot of posts since I last checked in on this one. Thanks for all the info, guys!
I bought a "GM" pump off RockAuto a few days ago that comes with new in-tank fuel hose and such. I hope to get around to dropping the tank and installing it here in the next week or two.
While I can't declare it official at this time, I think a new blower motor may have fixed this issue.
The problem was intermittent, and I haven't driven the truck and used the A/C enough to feel I've worked it out. But I've used it about 3 trips in the last week or so on pretty hot days and...
Assuming you're tapping your fingers waiting on me
The truck runs okay-ish as-is, and it's my daily, and I've got other things going on in life that are more urgent.
So I'm not in a big hurry to mess with having to drop the tank to replace the FP right away. It may be a week or 3 months...
This would be an interesting test. But I returned the fuel pressure test kit to Auto Zone yesterday - having already made up my mind that I should get a new fuel pump.
If I'm still having issues after the new FP is installed, I'll circle back to this post and try your test.
Thanks for the video, John.
That's exactly how I'd imagine most any healthy FP (stock or Walbro) should act.
I'd pretty much already made my mind up that I should get a new FP (I have no idea how old my current one is). But your video pretty much seals the deal.
Sorry I'm so dense guys. (Really appreciate you stickin' with me and trying to help this very A/C-ignorant fella out!)
The blower motor is attached to the "squirrel cage" fan thing that's bolted into the big housing on the firewall just behind my pass. side inner fender? Since it's fully...
