Having to change out the flywheel and obviously you have to slide the transmission back but I am unsure of how many bolts are holding it...

6 bolts. Which transmission ? Th400? Don't forget dipstick and kickdown cables or anything that could bind/ interfere.

I wonder if there is enough room to drop the flywheel without undoing the trans, after the torque converter is pushed back? K

Not really. It's much easier to simply remove the trans, get it out of the way so the flexplate can be removed and new one installed...

That's what I thought, and as alic20 said dipstick and all that jazz. Wish there was an easier way to replace the flywheel but it is...
