So I recently aquired my ole '74 and started doing some work on it. Then I decided to start cleaning up the sludge that entailed on the block. From there I decided to start identifying this sucker.
So the first place I looked at was the pad in front of the right head and this resulted in this find:
171181665 K0214 C2R
Now I realize the majority of that doesn't really mean much but the C2R on the end means its possibly a 305 block. So I started doing more reading on ways you can figure out better what you have for an engine.
So next I took a look at my heads and they resulted in:
333882
Well that resulted in the heads being from a 350 engine. So now I have two conflicting sources of information of what could possibly be in this truck.. Either a 305 or a 350.
So the next and final place to look is the casting number located behind the driver side head where the transmission bolts to the block and after much scraping and digging and brake clean and resulted in:
3970010
So looking up this number it now reflects that it could be a 302, 327 or a 350. So now I'm at a point where between the head and the block it shows it is a 350 but the pad shows its a 305.
So is there any other 100% definitive way of finding out what I have in this truck?
