ID steering boxes 2wd or 4wd?

What should i look for on a GM steering box to tell if it is a 2wd or 4wd box? Thanks

2WD box has a threaded pitman shaft, 4WD has a notch in it's pitman shaft. Also be aware there are year breaks where the power steering lines convert to metric. Not sure what the year break is though.

Some Dodge boxes will fit too.


2WD will NOT work in a stock 4WD.

I'd make sure this isn't 4x4 only though. Does Dodge 2wd also match GM 2wd Steering boxes?

Sweet, the box i have is a 2wd with ports for the hydro assist, and im planning on ord cross over steering.

You're saying you have a 2wd box on it now? If so, someone may have already installed crossover steering. Most crossover steering systems do require a 2wd steer box.

Oh no, i had it in the garage, just wanted to make sure it was a 2wd box and not a 4wd box with ports for the hydro
