Anyone know about the frame mounts on the Squares? Are different for different years, and/or Big Block, Small Block, I6, V6????

These came off of an 82 with a 350 Chevy.

These came off an 80 that was originally an Olds 350 Diesel and later Converted to Olds 350 Gas.

Now that I study these a bit more, there isn't that much difference. I wonder if the difference could be, 1 set is for 81 and later, and 1 set is for 80 and ealier? Anyone know if motor pads are different for the Round Eye to Square Eye interchange???

I've 'heard' that the big block mounts have the engine sitting a little lower.

It looks like those two you have are the same as far as frame brackets? Looks like the brackets for the Olds mounts just have another set of holes drilled.

I don't think they are identical. Noway to tell. The top ones are pics I got off of ebay. I don't have them in person.

I figured the big blocks just used the lower set of holes for the clamshell mount and the small block and 6's used the upper set up holes. But, that's is what I'm wondering, if the Olds uses different frame brackets too. And if the frame brackets are different from 80 down and 81 up models.

I don't think the big block could simply use the lower set of holes. Since the brackets are angled, there's going to be less distance between the lower set of holes.

Adding to the mix, there's going to be variations for 2wd/4x4, as well as different versions for the taller 1 ton frames.

The 2wd and 4wd, and 1 ton being a taller frame, those all go without saying. Those will be different for certain than 1/2 and 3/4 ton 2wd Trucks, Burbs, Blazers and Jimmy's.

Using small block mounts on a big block will have the engine sitting lower...I know someone that did it and the idiot cut a section of the frame out to accommodate...

Ok, so you're saying for big blocks, you need to use the big block frame brackets, not just the mounting pads that the clamshell bolts too. I'd imagine the pads might be the same.

He had to cut a notch in the frame for the PS pump.

I get that. But, to use the right configuration, you're saying the frame brackets are different from a Big Block to the Small Block and 6 cyl brackets right? Referring to the part that bolts to the Frame Rails and Crossmembers, not the pads themself that bolt to the brackets?

Not sure about big block to 6 cyl...Same guy put the 454 in place of a 250 in another truck and didn't have to notch the frame.

Get busy on that research there Mr Librarian. :Sumo: Or should we let 89S do that since the GMSB Newsletter jacked you out of your Librarian recognition and gave it to 89S????

I know I'm not the only one that noticed. I was waiting to see if anyone else did.

Hmm, my '79 was a small block, now a big block. I had assumed the PO just used the mounts that were already there. There's no clearance issues and nothing has been cut, fan shroud fits too. I wonder if they actually did change the mounts or if it's something to do with the 1 ton frame?

I know that the small block's balancer can wear a hole in the 4x4 crossmember if the mount's rubber is shot.
