Welcome! That's quite a find. Funny coincidence.. I grew up in Lancaster and still have lots of family in the area.

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

Yep, no machine work necessary unless the bearing spun and tore up the block. Probably won't necessarily even need all new bearings unless you can see visible gouges, but it would be good to do an inspection and know for sure

    A family heirloom

That is wild.. I would never be able to tell it isn't a blazer from just a casual glance. I really like it. Welcome from Oregon!

    1983 Chevy K10 Cab Search

Yep, road salt is prohibited for use in Oregon except for a select few spots on the interstate through steep mountain passes. They mainly use crushed cinder on the roads to promote traction in the mountains and main roads. You can find a single cab donor around here for $150-300 with zero or...

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

Cam bearings are notorious for spinning in these motors. You wouldn't get your symptoms from that though. Honestly, you are worse off having metal from a cam/lifter failure going through the motor than you are a bearing issue. Also, if you are already pulling it down far enough to replace...

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

Yeah, oil analysis will be able to tell if there is metal and what type, but really only matters if it’s small amounts and in the process of failing. I would drain the oil and cut the filter open. If a bearing spun or the cam got chewed up by a lifter spinning, you’ll be able to physically see...

    Intake plenum gaskets

Yes, needle likely fell off when you turned it over to dump the gas, it just hangs on there by the spring normally. The power valve hanger can easily get bent if the last person to assemble it didn't make sure the needles were lined up inside the jets before assembly. It's kind of a pain to get...

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

Any update on this? I think I finally got enough stuff prepped and my 5.3 is getting super tired. We towed our trailer out to Newport for the first camping trip of the season and hot oil pressure at idle is dropping down under 20psi and never gets above 35-40 psi even at full tilt. Fresh oil and...

    Intake plenum gaskets

Yes, that is the idle kick up solenoid that engages when the AC is engaged. The two prong electrical connector that is next to it(not plugged into anything) is the connector for the AC compressor. I totally forgot to check for the carb instruction sheet last night, I'm getting some stuff ready...

    Another Oil Pressure Question

Only the single wire to the sender on the back of the engine feeds the gauge. The oil pressure SWITCH provides power to the choke in a non-fuel injected truck. That wire provides a power feed to the sender from the gauge and the sender provides a variable resistance to ground, based on the oil...

    Intake plenum gaskets

I've got the instructions at home for all the quadrajet setting instructions. I can post them tonight when I get home if I remember. Float level for all truck quadrajets as far as I've seen is supposed to be 3/8". You measure it by gently pushing the other end of the float arm down to set the...

    Intake plenum gaskets

The correct method for tightening the carb bolts is: Tighten one diagonal set of bolts to 36 in-lbs (3 ft-lbs); tighten the other diagonal set of bolts to 36 in-lbs (3 ft-lbs); tighten all four bolts to 144 in-lbs (12 ft-lbs). This is shown on an inset drawing in the Chevrolet Chassis Service...

    Intake plenum gaskets

She is south of Eugene. This is the same person I pointed to the Eugene squarebodies group on facebook and she had made contact with someone down there that was going to come out and look at it. Apparently he wasn't much help either I guess.

    Intake plenum gaskets

You will need a new base gasket for the carb. They are cheap and available at the local parts store, Fel-Pro 60249 is the correct one for a 79' 400 quadrajet...

    Mandrel exhaust shop

This is also what I was going to say. I buy the bends in mandrel bent form so that I can cut and weld them as needed easier to get the smooth bends I want.

    Mandrel exhaust shop

There are tons of "universal kits".. I just buy 3" mandrel U or J pipes and a few sections of straight pipe and cut/weld to fit.

    Header Gaskets

I just put a set of the speed engineering long tubes on my suburban and the back bolt was broken off the passenger side. I couldn't get anything in there to extract it and it's getting the 6.2 put in it in a few weeks anyways, so I said screw it. Remflex gaskets and ICT billet header bolts and...

    Trim codes 77B and 77I

That paint code "U7475" is the PPG code for GM paint code 72. GM called it Apple Red in 86', but it is also called standard Red or Bright red.

1983 K10 saddle tank replacement with in frame tank

My setup looks a lot like yours, except I bought the 31 Gallon Blazer tank with sending unit, crossmember, straps, filler neck, and all stock sheetmetal components locally for $40. If anything fails or needs replacement.. I can just go into any parts store anywhere and buy an OEM 87-91 Blazer...

    Trim codes 77B and 77I

ZY1: I can't access the 1987 Vehicle information kit and the 86 one does not show that color in it. It does have 72 for a color. Is your truck a red single color exterior? If so, I would assume you have Apple red exterior with a Burgundy interior.

    79 k20 400 running rough, can't figure it out.

That's great! I saw you post in the group the other day and was glad someone was able to come look at it. I'll PM you my info on the group so you have it in case they can't get it going or you need some more help on it. I know a few people down that way that are pretty good with the squares and...

    79 k20 400 running rough, can't figure it out.

That's a bit low. You might have junk in the tank clogging up your pickup screen or maybe a worn fuel pump eccentric on the cam that isn't giving a full fuel pump stroke. I'm still leaning towards the carb needing lots of adjustments or having something wrong with it though. The fact it needs...

    79 k20 400 running rough, can't figure it out.

Those are a stock-ish replacement as far as thread and length... but they are a MUCH colder plug. I don't think it is your actual problem, but it could be making your actual problem more visible. The R44TS or R45TS are the correct factory plug with a heat range of 4 or 5 respectively. The...
