We pulled a roller L-29 454 out of the junkyard on half price day. That with its matching 4L80 two wheel drive transmission, driveshaft, and some other doo dads we were out the door at $450 or so. Without knowing more, this one could be fun. It has 218 degrees at .050 and that should be plenty for a heavy sub. Stock seems to be right around 200 degrees and more strip style cams seem to come around at 230 degrees and up. But please do research and call the cam company representative and...- Catbox

Header hell
I would think with those kind of power numbers you may want to have 1-3/4" primary tubes to flow when you are really getting after it. Smaller 1-5/8 primaries may not be able to get all the gasses out.- Catbox

What new tools have you got lately?
I pulled the hose out just after I took those photos. It was 90* outside and the water felt good and kept the dust down. The 3/4 minus we put out yesterday was far nicer to compact as there was little dust, unlike the 1/4 minus that was the base. -

We have also been borrowing a wheelbarrow and rototiller from a friend. They needed them as this weekend was great out and they had stuff to do. I so didn't want to buy another one as they are dumb expensive now. But it will last me longer than the last one I bought that made it over 20 years... -

This weekend was not cheap. So I'm putting in some gravel and stuff for a parking area that my Bel Air and truck sit. I wanted to compact the gravel as we put it in and got on the interwebs and found that you can rent them. Cool. But for 4 hours you can rent one for $60 or a full day for $100... -

Jack ideas?
I have found the jack sets from the GMT400 trucks to work well. At the local yard they remove the jacks and sell them in the office, but the rest of the sets are left in the vehicles. What ever you end up using, strap it down if its in the passenger compartment. In an accident, those things can...- Catbox

Are there any stampings on them that can be looked up? That is how I identified the headers on my truck and their intended usage as well as junkyard and swap meet headers. On the head flange there will be numbers stamped into it, or possibly a tag on the tube with part numbers. Junkyard headers...- Catbox

350 starter question
I have put a 1997 small block starter on my 1979 big block, a 1975 250 straight six, and a 1968 307. They are small and powerful and if it fits, it should start your engine like a champ.- Catbox
